Does The Fan590 & TSN 1050 Still Do This?
I have to admit I rarely listen to the Fan when the Jays are done. And I haven't tune in TSN1050 for years. So I'm not sure if they still give regular sports updates on the hour, recapping the latest scores and headlines. I do know they're still on 680 at :15 and :45.
I ask because the original FAN - WFAN 660 in New York, the world's first all sports format - has now officially stopped updating its own fans on sports news. The very last update was given on Sunday, ending an era that's been going on for decades.
The last update was given by a guy named Peter Schwartz and he acknowledged the moment in his final day on air.
"Schwartz had to change something that became second nature over the years: omitting the typical reminder that there would be a follow-up flash “at the top of the hour...”
“I also said something to the effect of, ‘On behalf of every update anchor in the history of WFAN, that’s what’s happening, I’m Peter Schwartz.’ "
I wonder if the sports outlets in Toronto still do this and if this is the beginning of the end of this long running feature of the format here in the interests of saving money.

I rarely listen to 1050 but I know the FAN stopped doing this years ago, I think the thinking is you can easily get the scores on your phone or online. And the FAN focuses more on interviews and analysis.
There was a time when the FAN was doing these updates only on the morning show but I think even that has gone away.

And yet 680 News does a half hour sports update at :15 and :45, so you'd think as long as they've got a guy in doing that, he might as well do double duty on 590 for the same price. I don't expect it from TSN 1050, but I thought the Fan might still have it on at the top of the hour.
