If you ever watched that 60s show about the stranded castaways, you'll remember they had a white battery operated radio that they used to listen to, to keep track of news from home. (It was never clear where the station was coming from, but it could not have been that far from the island, since it came in on AM during the day.) 

Not that it ever even remotely occurred to me, but this article reveals the name of the "news announcer" they listened to while they were stranded. If you're ever in a bar bet, it could be a great way to get a free drink by naming the guy.
