After a $300 million renovation, Hamilton's TD Coliseum opened it's doors last night to a memorable concert with Sir Paul McCartney.

It was really great!
His voice was quite good for 83 years old, and you could tell he still loves performing.
The renovated area was excellent.
First time I've ever seen him, and I'm glad I did.

680 News did not exactly do itself proud while covering the lead-up to this concert. They mentioned that McCartney would be playing the former Copps Coliseum, while underneath they played a musical bed. The song? "Come Together" by the Beatles.
Only problem is that's a John Lennon tune and he's doing the vocals. You'd think if they wanted to run a Fab Four record, they might have been able to find one sung by Paul himself!

Add it to the already robust list of embarrassing 680 News failures. For fuck's sake. They've only had thirty years to improve.

My guess is that the choice was made by someone who wasn't around during the Beatles reign on the charts and may not have even known the difference between Lennon and McCartney. So any song by the group was fine.

I would be surprised if anyone working there is 70 or older....

Still miss Rudy Blair on 680 News.

Did he get a jump on the festive season, and sing 'Wonderful Christmastime'?
😖
I consider it a good yuletide if I manage to avoid that clunker.

Considering how the Jays spent $400 million to renovate Rogers Centre, the $300 million spent to renovate a much smaller TD Coliseum is impressive and it's good to see.
NOW Magazine states:
"The former Copps Coliseum/FirstOntario Centre has been completely rebuilt.
The arena now features five premium clubs, 10 suites and first-of-their-kind lower-bowl suites, with most memberships already sold out.
Renovations improve access and flow, with three public concourses, more space, new food vendors and modernized facilities for fans.
Upgraded acoustics include sound baffles, bass traps and treated surfaces to support its “music-first” venue approach.
TD Coliseum launches with major acts, including Paul McCartney, Earth, Wind & Fire, Nine Inch Nails, Cardi B, Journey and more."
I applaud the "music first" venue approach but fear that puts another nail in the coffin for an NHL franchise. Something we haven't heard about in quite a while. ![]()

This CBC story is more about the concert itself. This Billboard Canada article shows you the behind-the-scenes of the new venue and reveals they hurried up construction so it would be open in time for McCartney to be the first act to perform there.
