Bud Riley & Bud O’Reilly Radio Web Entries Are Both Worth A Look

I remember Bud Riley as a newsman at CKFH back in the early 70s. But he also has a presence on the Internet, featuring some pretty amazing audio he's collected over the years. His webpage has extensive histories of many of the stations where he's worked, including CHUM, CFOR, CHOW, CJRN and even CJRT.

But there’s another similar sounding radio veteran name Bud O’Reilly who has an old but quite incredible series of videos on his YouTube page. (Frankly, I'm not entirely sure whether they're not the same guy!) It's full of some amazing material you may never have seen or heard before.

Some examples: CKFM's legendary overnight man Fred Napoli singing, a rare check from John Michael on CKTB, Rick Jeanneret from CJRN before he became the play-by-play announcer for the Sabres, former CKEY newsman Pete McGarvey interviewing Pete and Geets, and in the spirit of the season, CKFM legend Carl Banas reading "A Christmas Carol." Plus a whole lot more.

If you've never seen what he has on offer on YouTube, it's definitely worth a look - and a listen.

Bud O’Reilly’s YouTube Page

By the way, CKFH’s Bud Riley was featured on my favourite chart cover from the station in October 1970. It was such a great shot, it ended up appearing in Mad Magazine.

That is a great shot of Bud Riley, very 70s! I grew up (debatable), reading MAD magazine, like many I imagine. Don Martin, Al Jaffe, Spy Vs. Spy and the fold-ins were all top notch humour to me, then I discovered National Lampoon…. My wife usually gives me the annual MAD Christmas special as a stocking stuffer, and it doesn’t change that much year to year, but l get a nostalgic buzz from it!
