CBC Announces New Host Replacing Heather Hiscox

Heather Hiscox had her final morning show on CBC on the news network this morning. There has been much speculation who will be replacing Heather on the highly rated morning program.  David Common who hosts mornings on CBC radio takes over the TV program in February, his last day on CBC radio is January 12th/26.  More from CBC.ca....https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/david-common-morning-live-9.6968932

I think this is a safe move for CBC, but now the search is on for a new host for Metro Morning, and maybe its time for a new name for the radio show too.

Yes, David Common is a safe choice but also a good one.  I don't listen to his show on Metro Morning that much,  but I do like that he injects humour in the program and his musical choices are somewhat more mainstream.  Common is a jack of all trades and seems to be good at whatever he takes on.  Interesting some of the clips featured yesterday by  personalities saying good bye to Heather including Lisa Laflamme.

Here is Heather's good-bye that ran on the National last night, didn't know she had a rather unique nickname around CBC... https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/video/9.6970425

Agreed on Common, safe and good, two not-terrible qualities for the Ceeb. I chuckled at HH's nickname when I saw that piece last night.

Here's the full show in case you want to kill four hours:

No one since Matt Galloway has stuck at Metro Morning for long, and is it 3 or 4 years since he left for The Current? Who are likely candidates to take over?

Re: CBC Announces New Host Replacing Heather Hiscox

Thanks to YouTube allowing accelerated playback speeds, I watched (read: mostly listened to while surfing other websites) to HH's final show in about 2 hours.

It got me thinking about which type of final show you'd prefer to see/hear: this 4-hour HH love-fest with lots of nostalgia and "look backs" or something like Mr. Dressup's final show, which was for all intents and purposes, a "normal" show that gave no real indication that they were doing this for the "final time".

Neither approach is wrong but I can't help but think if there had been some serious breaking news last Thursday morning, then the love-fest format would have to have been jettisoned, ruining all the planning that had gone into the production.

Personally I’m a big fan of Sir Trevor MacDonald’s departure as anchor of the ITN News at Ten in the UK. A dignified, respectful farewell to the audience:
