AI newsreaders

This is in Australia, but I really hope AI radio newsreaders don’t make their way here…

Re: AI newsreaders

It's very early days for AI yet, but the day will come when this will be the norm.  AI can be trained.

The bigger question will be where the stations source their news.  Currently, a large number of stations just steal their 'news' from public web pages, everything from the Globe and Mail to Facebook and all things in between.  My concern would be more with the accuracy and legality of the news these AI services are using.

Whether we like it or not, college programs are shutting down and corporations are hiring less newscasters and getting rid of any with a lot of experien$e, leaving a pretty green crew out there to pass their knowledge on to the next group. If we want 'authoritative news' at some point in the near future, my money says AI will be the only way it can be done.  I'm not saying I like it, I don't believe there's another way.

Yes, some companies still hire local and offer peer training, etc., but those are in the minority and will soon have few options left.

ig.

Re: AI newsreaders

And it's not just news.

How Many AI Artists Have Debuted On The Billboard Charts?

"One of the most prominent examples is Xania Monet, an artist with an animated avatar created by Mississippi-based songwriter Telisha “Nikki” Jones. Jones writes the lyrics and has used Suno — along with help from some other humans — to create the songs. "

This leads to the real prospect of an A.I. announcer coming out of an A.I. anchored newscast to play a song by an A.I.- created artist, followed by an A.I.-made ad. A.I.-yi-yi-yi!

Here's a sample of "her" work.

It's funny how the report says her local reporting is showing up at dozens of stations, miles apart in the region as if such things can only be accomplished by AI and aren't done already.

Re: AI newsreaders

I'd float it as the hand of god creating content rather than mere mortals.

PS. It's very good!

Here's a sample of "her" work.

Are any Toronto radio stations playing this A.I. artist? They like the sound at Flow 98.7 - but they're not airing it.

At least not yet.

“It sounds like a great southern R&B artist,” said Tristan (Triz) Douglas, a radio personality with the Toronto-based urban contemporary station Flow 98.7. “It gives me the sound of, like, Beyoncé or Fantasia.”

But Douglas says he has concerns because Monet isn’t real — and he doesn't want to bump a real musician for an AI-generated one...

“I think here at Flow, we know what our listeners want. And although that artist might have numbers elsewhere, it just doesn't — it doesn't feel right for us,” he said. “Right now, I would say Flow’s airwaves are reserved for real artists.”

Sounds like the beginning of a great debate we're only just starting to have. But if it were to become a huge hit, it might be much harder to ignore. I'm curious about how some here feel about this. Would you have any objection to listening to an A.I. artist on your favourite radio station, provided it was identified as one? What if they didn't tell you?

AI artist Xania Monet has hit the Billboard charts. What does it mean for 'real' musicians?

Re: AI newsreaders

If I were Alison Moyet I'd find a way to sue.

Re: AI newsreaders

If I was listening to the radio and this song came on, I wouldn’t be able to switch stations fast enough. Probably just not my taste as I can imagine AI will produce some hits before you know it.

I wonder what the A.I. Beatles will sound like?
