I'm guessing the folks at 680 were expecting a very different outcome, even going to the extent of bringing regular weekday anchors Paul Cook and Catherine Jettté to do the Sunday morning run at 6 AM (EST.)
I'm not sure if that's ever happened before, but obviously they were hoping to be reporting on the happy chaos on the streets after a Jays' win. Other weekday reporters were also working the previous night, looking for celebrating Jays fans. Needless to say, they didn't find any.

That's unnecessary. Even if they did win, who would be listening at 6am? Even the partiers would've gone home by then.....

I heard this, this morning and don't have an issue with it. Rogers ( the parent company) have put a lot of time and money in getting the team this far. Its only good business to have your "A" team covering the story no matter what happens.

I'm guessing they thought the Jays would win, the city would be going crazy and it was worth having all hands on deck. By the time it became clear that wasn't the case, it was probably too late to stop it.
They also had a lot of their live reporters out late Saturday night (like Carl Hanstke and Kevin Misener) getting reaction from disappointed fans across the GTA. Normally, those people would have had the weekend off, too.

I think Rogers has repatriated 680's overnights back to Toronto. I haven't heard the Vancouver content in a while now. The news readers also seem to be good during the overnights. At one time, they were not.

I guess the only question I have would be: Did this move slight the regular Sunday morning crew somehow?
This was a scheduled news event so 680News could plan for it, but what happens when an unscheduled news event happens on a late Saturday night/early Sunday morning? Will the Sunday regulars feel they have management's confidence if Paul Cook and Catherine Jetté aren't called in?

For the last 1-2years the Toronto has been reporting the news. They have reduced from 2 to 1 anchor for overnights. The 1 anchor would report up until :15 and :45 and pre-recorded news from the evening news anchors.
More recently, the weekend evening news format has also reduced to 1 anchor with the afternoon anchor pre-recorded the news.

I hated it when they did the Vancouver anchors on the overnight run. It's simply impossible to have both cities (and any in between) adequately covered properly when you try to split the local news down the middle.
I remember often hearing stories in Toronto about the ferries in B.C. not running on time, or being delayed. Could anything be less relevant to a Toronto audience, middle of the night or not? And I'm sure people in B.C. hearing about a late night accident tying up traffic on the Gardiner must have left them puzzled.
It's one thing to try and save money, but you either do it right or you don't. I'm sometimes up in the middle of the night and it's the only thing live on all of GTA radio. At the very least, local news should be local.
It's one of the reasons I can't watch Global's noon newscast. It airs in both Montreal and Toronto and neither one really is well served by trying to cover both cities at once.
