Prince Andrew? He did what?
I was listening to the radio this morning as always, flipping between stations while I drank my coffee and try to get my eyes functional, mostly looking for music I would like to listen to. Mornings are a bad time to be listening for music- especially anything new, but that's beside the point. I stopped on one station to get their gossip report and the subject of Prince Andrew came up and his expulsion by King Charles. The host doing the reporting actually confessed on air that she knew nothing about the controversy surrounding Andrew and his association with Jeffrey Epstein and possible sexual misconduct. Where has this radio personality been and where does she get her news to report? This has been going on for several years. I was stunned. How could someone in radio, doing featured gossip and related reporting, not know what has been an ongoing significant news item?

Years ago there was a certain woman radio news anchor who had spent some years living in Iran of all places.
A friend of mine tells the story of how she failed to use a story about a well known celebrity death, with the excuse being she was "not into Western culture."
This was at a Toronto radio station.

I would absolutely not expect a non-journalist at a music station to know that.
The awareness of this amongst the general public would be minuscule.

Here's a great one. I won't mention the name of the anchor, but this person worked at City TV at the time this happened.
The anchor arrived at the station late, about an hour before CityPulse was to begin. Around 5:50 PM, they went down to the studio (they were at 99 Queen St. E. at the time, so the newsroom was upstairs on the 5th floor and the control room all the way down on the first.)
Anyway, this person went onto the set, sat down in the chair and began reading over the script they were about to deliver in ten minutes. I was told this story by a very reliable source, who was there that day.
This anchor picked up the script and began to read. (Remember the show was not yet on the air when this happened, thankfully.) "Good evening," the words began, "The Pope is recovering in hospital after being shot."
There was a pause and then, wide-eyed and with real surprise, the person involved exclaimed, "THEY SHOT THE POPE???!!!"
It is unbelievable that someone employed to bring news to the masses had no idea one of the biggest stories of the year had taken place earlier that day and they had no idea. That spoke volumes about how well informed they were - and they were part of a major Toronto newscast!
