Mark Sanchez, a former NFL quarterback-turned Fox Sports analyst has been stabbed and then charged after a bizarre altercation in Indianapolis Saturday. The former football player was supposed to be doing coverage for the network, when he somehow wound up in a fight, allegedly with a delivery driver.
The driver claims Sanchez was drunk and hostile and got into an argument with him about his truck. He says he was so scared for his life, he felt he needed to defend himself, resulting in the TV personality being pepper sprayed and then stabbed several times.
"As the altercation escalated, the driver feared “this guy is trying to kill me’” and pulled his knife as Sanchez came at him, the affidavit said. Sanchez was initially stabbed two or three times, then stabbed again when he went at the driver again, it said."
When police investigated, they determined Sanchez had allegedly started the confrontation, was wounded, and is currently in the hospital. He was supposed to call the Raiders-Colts game on Sunday but obviously could not show up for duty.
Fox hosts tried to cautiously explain what happened on their Sunday broadcasts, but understandably were tiptoeing around the story. It's not known how long Sanchez might be off air, but his first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
