It's kind of like the Cy Young trophy, only for broadcasters. The finalists for the Ford C. Frick Award were announced on Tuesday and two Blue Jay play-by-play voices are in the running. One you know, the other you may not.
Sportsnet's Dan Shulman is up for the prize that honours contributions to the game. His work for ESPN also makes him a familiar name in the U.S.
The joker in this deck is Jacques Doucette, a one-time Montreal Expos announcer, who did French broadcasts of Blue Jay games when his former team left the country. He plied his trade doing Jays games en francais from 2011 to 2022.
This is an All Star competition, with other names in the running including Joe Buck, longtime Yankee broadcaster John Sterling and the late Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Caray. You can see the whole list here.
The winner will be unveiled on Dec. 10th and earn a place in Cooperstown.
