On this date (Sept 28), two TV stations in our neck of the woods launched. In 1972, it was Citytv that took to the airwaves from 99 Queen St. East; seventeen years prior, Barrie's CKVR went on the air, and 70 years later, continues to broadcast from the same studio and transmitter location on Beacon Road, in Barrie's south end.
Enjoy this collage of some of CKVR's logos from various eras... they're shown in approximate chronological order.

I worked for Citytv for twenty years and had no idea that Sylvia Tyson, who just turned 85, was one of the original shareholders. Her name never came up like the other names did so I wonder if something happened there, or not!

My memory of old CKVR isn’t the shows was their ID guy. You could tell he had the headphones way too loud, and he just loved the sound of himself.

Which ID guy? The station used some CHUM jocks (Ashby and Majhor were two of them) for much of the '80s, then Ron Hewat in the late '80s, and for the first half of the '90s, that folksy-sounding guy who I haven't been able to identify. 'VR also had some in-house voices, such as Doug Moyle who also did a lot of commercials and promos, and in the early part of the "New VR" era, sportscaster Kevin Quinn.

I saw this last night in their newscast, it was basically a repeat of their 60 year anniversary, as nothing is going on at that station since.

These were good times on CKVR - and also wasnt CBC the one actually running the show? I know they were affiliated but, the station itself was doing the contest.

Didn't see Gail Smith in any of those pix. Hmm...
