Donald Trump says that all movies not made in the US will have a 100% tariff. He first threatened this measure back in May. More details from CNN...

I'm not sure if he can do this. Back in May when he made that announcement initially, it was pointed out by the news that the president doesn't have the authority to impose tariffs on movies. Not that this will stop him from trying.

1. There is a designated thread for talk about the POTUS. Use it.
2. Nobody wants to hear about the current POTUS. Stop talking about him, and in particular, stop parroting every GODDAMN word he says. Stop sharing screenshots of his social posts. Stop sharing news stories about him. Just stop talking about him altogether. None of us want to see or hear his name or likeness ever again.

He didn't have the authority to impose tariffs on anything. That authority rests with the congress who have surrendered all of their authority to Trump.

As much as I try to discourage the subject of all things Orange, this does have a place here. Hundreds of movies and TV shows are made in Canada, especially Toronto and Vancouver. It could have a major effect on the business here, although I think this may be completely unenforceable.
Figuring out what counts as American and what is "foreign" (many of the stars are from the U.S. but film here - does that invoke the tariff or not?) is going to be almost impossible.
I wonder if that includes the movie "The Apprentice?"

He (or whoever is pulling his strings) is likely hoping to scare studio executives enough that they'll flock to him to kiss the ring and offer gifts, e.g. contributions to the ballroom construction fund.

Speaking of which, Trump got a $24 million payout from YouTube Monday, over the site banning him after the Jan. 6th Washington D.C. riot in 2021. The owner, Alphabet, decided to settle the lawsuit that was launched against them, even though as far as I can tell, there's no law that forces YouTube to allow anyone onto their site if they don't want them there.
The White House says $22 million of that ill gotten gain will go to building you-know-who's Golden Ballroom.

Given the rabid-response team that tRump wields, the owners likely decided that sacrificing a measly $24 Million is much safer than toughing it out against a lunatic. Anyone who thinks all this madness is normal, or acceptable, needs to make an appointment for a mental-wellness check.
