Two eastern Ontario radio stations relocate

It was certainly the end of a long era today for Brockville's CFJR-FM 104.9 "myFM" and its sister, CJPT-FM 103.7 "Giant FM", as the two stations moved to new studios this morning. CFJR, which will reach 100 years on the air in 2026, had broadcast from studios at 601 Stewart Boulevard since 1968, and veteran CFJR personality Bruce Wylie, who has been with the station since 1971 and will be retiring next year, had the honour of being the last announcer to broadcast from the Stewart Boulevard location. Wylie wrapped up with some reminiscing, followed by Edward Bear's "Last Song"; the switch to the new studios at 100 Strowger Boulevard, a large former industrial building, occurred at exactly 10am, with Kenny Loggins' "Footloose" being the first song played from the new location.

CFJR and CJPT were acquired not long ago by Renfrew's My Broadcasting Corporation, who purchased the stations and two others in Kingston from Bell Media. MBC Brockville general manager Dan Mellon, a Brockville native whose radio career began in the '90s at CFJR and CJPT (formerly CHXL), talked about the move yesterday on Facebook, and his post can be seen here, along with some photos of the Stewart Boulevard building and the old CFJR 1450 transmitter site beside the studios; CFJR, which began as CFLC Prescott, moved down the dial to 830 in 1985, transmitting from a new site northwest of Brockville, where its FM successor continues to originate since converting to the FM band in 2003.

Re: Two eastern Ontario radio stations relocate

I remember when City TV did its final newscast from 99 Queen St. E., where they'd been since the station signed on in 1972, before moving to their new HQ at 299 Queen W. (They've since moved out of there, as well!)
