If Buffalo News columnist Alan Pergament is right, WNED is getting more money to survive from people living north of the border than those where the actual station is licenced. In his Monday column, the veteran scribe notes he's been watching the pledge breaks on the station and noticed as a special thank you, they are now supering the names on the screen as a special thank you to those who contribute. It comes in the wake of the federal government cutting off the money supply to PBS and NPR.
"The station thanks people pledging by putting their names and locations across the screen. During my brief time watching, it was notable that more support was coming from new members from Canada than from Western New York.
It wasn’t that surprising since I’ve been told that about two-thirds of the financial support for BTPM (Buffalo Toronto Public Media) comes from Canada."
I wonder how the folks at TVO feel about this?
Pergament's column is here.

Don't let the orange monster see this or he'll promptly, by federal law, prohibit noncomm media (e.g. PBS and NPR members) from accepting donations etc. from outside the U.S.

Or he'll demand that Canadian money be manufactured only in the U.S.!

well there is a significant WNED Canada vs American viewing population difference ..
Toronto is the center of a market with over seven million people—seven times the population of WNED-TV's American coverage area.

And if you consider where WNED is available in Southern Ontario beyond the GTA it is likely more like ten million as compared to the audience available in Buffalo and area. Does anyone know how much WNED takes in per year with the fundraising? In 2023 TVO received $54.4 million from the provincial government and the rest came from fundraising and charitable donations. Total budget for TVO was around $66 million according to wiki.
