Jessica, from Canada's west coast, was interviewed at a celebratory event in Winnipeg.
The CBC reporter asked her what she loves about Canada. Her response was on-topic for SOWNY.
Among many reasons, she included, "Given what we're seeing south of us, thank god for public broadcasting that can't be directly influenced by private ownership."
Amen to that.

I watched about an hour this morning of CBC's Canada Day coverage. Heather Hiscox was live from Charlottetown (the birthplace of Confederation) and Adrienne Arsenault from Parliament Hill. Excellent interviews with ordinary Canadians and some with people that everyone knows, like Mike Myers and Ryan Reynolds. Also they had reporters filing stories from all over the country. Seems like everyone is wearing white and red. Sort of hokey, but on Canada Day hokey has never been cooler... Happy Canada Day everyone!!Â

Canada Day? It is "free agent frenzy" day. It is all over Sportsnet and TSN...What Canada day?Â
Oh, this Canada Day....I'll see myself out now.

CTV News Channel has been doing a decent job covering Canada Day. Nobody would expect them to be as extensive as CBC. Â
Radio has been fascinating. BOOM has been knocking it out of the park today, as has Zoomer. BOOM'S image breaks have been remarkable and funny, the fact that they have been live just makes it better.  CBC Radio has also been all in on Canada Day as well.Â
On a side note, I have noticed a big improvement on AM 1220 St. Catharines. I can now receive them in my car and what I have heard they are sounding good. Most important they also have commercials!! Does CKOC have any ads yet?Â

Also within Stingray, New Country 93.5 ran a "Top 100 Canadian Country" countdown hosted by Terri Clark and Paul Brandt.

Zoomer has been fascinating musically as well. Yes, yes I know the ratings...blah blah blah.. But they actually have a bit of an advantage in that they can play tunes more from either end. Songs from the 50's and 60's and also tunes from into the 2000's. So BOOM and Zoomer aren't always playing as much of the same music as might have been expected. Both stations have sounded great all day whenever I listened in. Â

I listened mostly to Zoomer for my Canada Day music, and they did a great job! There was a couple of songs that I haven’t heard in a while, which is always a nice surprise!
