Hello and happy Canada day!
Just tuned into the region to hear what they are up to.
And I think there's a format change that happened.
I just heard south-asian programming and bollywood music.
The anouncer said in english radio y 24/7 which means they are not just broakering half the day.
Did they sell with out crtc aprouval?
Or are they just broakering?
The music sounds nice and they speak a mix of hindi and english so I understud some of what the 2 femail hosts were saying.

They have always done some ethnic programming. It's what keeps them financially alive (albeit apparently on life support.) "Radio Y" may be what the group buying airtime call themselves.
I think the Region is still around, although they only have two live hosts - morning and afternoon drive. Their website remains up and it continues to update headlines (with July 1 as the publication date.) So it would appear the place is cut to the bone, but still very much there.

It's definitely a format change:
The Y-Media group seems like it has existed for a while, so it may well be that the station is entirely brokered.

Smart move, 105.9 The Region, looked like they sold the station. If it isn't making money, sell while you can.
I have no idea what announcers are on Y Radio?
Also, the name and dial location is extremely close to York University's CHRY-105.5
I am wondering if CHRY will ask for a name change from Y-media.

It's one of those rare instances where they're actually paying for a phone line where you can listen over your device, instead of streaming (647-910-5000). I wonder if anyone actually uses that.
CIRF (1350 AM) in Brampton also has a "listen over the phone" option as well. (647-564-1350)

This is confusing now.
There's Y105.9 online:
But then there's still the original Region 105.9, with 5 choices to listen to
(Region 105.9 being the first choice)
on the top right corner of their original website: (click listen live, then select one of the 5 choices)
What does one actually get when tuning into 105.9 FM on the radio dial?

Something looks to be up. For the last hour (9-10pm) they have instrumental music looping. It's not parallel to Y's webstream, either. I can't get an RDS lock so they may have their encoder disabled. I'm not in their main east-west signal contour so I don't get the best reception as they have to protect CHRE to the south as CFMS operates with HD.

Wow, I can't believe you pulled that page up/exists... took me back in time...
CHRY has long ago branded to Vibe 105 and gone completely urban with professional approach -
(I really do miss the good old days when they had a full schedule and truly engaging programming back in the 90's to 10's, Twas a volunteer in mid 90's with news at noon and 5pm, I can't believe 35 years ago I was there)
As for the subject thread for 105.9, I wonder if the brokered deal changed to allow Y Radio in the day parts perhaps? (It seems there are a lot of ethnic stations as it stands now, I guess competition could be good, or is it overwhelming, I wonder this?)

As of 7pm, still looping the same instrumental music from last night. I did hear some ethnic programming earlier in the day.
