    Shelly Berman, Pioneering Stand-Up & "Curb's" Dad, Dead At 92

    He was a very hip and famous comedian for those of us who remember the Ed Sullivan Show. But for newer viewers, he played Larry David's father on numerous episodes of the soon-to-return "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO.

    Shelly Berman, whose stand-up phone shtick was similar to Bob Newhat's but much harder-edged, was 92.

    I honestly thought he had already passed away.  I was spinning the "Edge of Shelley Berman" just the other day.  Very funny man.
