As If Rogers Doesn't Have Enough Of A Monopoly In This City

The big announcement, pending all day, is that Live Nation is building an entertainment complex at Downsview Park - and it already has a name. It's going to be called - what else? - Rogers Stadium.

It's not enough that Big Red has its tentacles in telecommunications, cable, the Internet and owns almost every Toronto sports team, it now has to park its name on the latest entertainment venue in the city. Enough already. Seriously, this company is becoming too powerful and there's no telling how high their gouging will go once they own or have a stake in almost everything.

Love Rogers or hate them, this isn't healthy.

Oh well. At least I can take some comfort in still calling the baseball stadium the SkyDome...

Live Nation to build concert venue at Downsview — with a name that bears striking resemblance to another stadium

At  one point Rogers considered selling the rights to the side of their building. If only there could be an airline called Sky air. That way, with their name replacing Rogers on the side of the Building, the place could have easily been called SKY Dome once again...

(Same goes for Maple Leaf foods, if they ever desire to outbid Scotiabank, they could easily get away with calling Toronto's Hockey arena Maple Leaf Gardens once again...  )

It will be around for a few years... but they likely have to take it down before winter to ensure good structural integrity for next year

Everyone leaving that venue at the same time after shows should be quite entertaining

So was the Eiffel Tower, in 1889.

I stand corrected torontostan, but seems like a lot of work for them. Mind you, the money they’ll make on concessions alone makes it worthwhile!
