The term "Hispanic" was adopted for use by the U.S. government ages ago.
A good number of Latino people, in both the U.S. and Canada, consider the word to be derogatory, and prefer to be referred to as Latino/Latina.
With the continuing coverage of the flooding in Houston, this is worth a mention.
Sidenote: the word I first used, "created" was inaccurate, hence the editing to "adopted", so thanks grilled.cheese - the words we use matter.
