Rick The Temp Is Now Permanent - On City's BT

Rick Campanelli has left notes for news. He's the new Live Eye Reporter for City TV's Breakfast Television, after having served at Rogers-owned CHFI on the afternoon shift since March 2024.

The new gig began on Monday, although he'll still be heard on 98.1 with an 80s and 90s Sunday show.

So who gets the drive home gig on FI? It's another Rogers employee, in a game of music chairs.

More details here.

Re: Rick The Temp Is Now Permanent - On City's BT

Greg Burns, from sister station KiSS 92.5 (CKIS-FM) steps into the 4 – 7 p.m. ET time slot on CHFI, while Pina Sama takes over his 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. ET midday daypart on KiSS.

As a non morning TV watcher, but listener of these two stations, i don't love these moves.

Rick & Brooksy had a very good chemistry and the show didn't sound as new as it was.

Meanwhile, over at KiSS, I really liked Greg Burns. He made the station sound bigger and helped with the station's move to sound a little older.

Just my personal taste.

This is in no way a dig at Rick, but for someone who was never trained in media or news, just won a temp contest, he has had quite a lot of lives in media jobs.

Re: Rick The Temp Is Now Permanent - On City's BT

Turns out Campanelli is still showing up fulltime on the radio - in the morning and in Vancouver - on the newly launched KiSS Throwback format.

Vancouver radio station abruptly changes formats

He's BT's Live Eye reporter, which presumes most of his stuff will be as the name suggests - live. BT ends at 9 AM Eastern - 6 AM out west. Unless some of it is pre-taped (who wants a pre-recorded morning show?) it would be interesting to know how he can pull it off from Toronto.

Re: Rick The Temp Is Now Permanent - On City's BT

With all the remote tracking and multiple assignments, I am reminded of the wisecrack at a press conference in Washington D.C. years ago.  The administration mouthpiece was lauding their efforts at the hundreds of thousands of jobs created in the year previous.  A voice in the crowd is reputed to have said that they knew...they were working three of them.🤨
