How '70s Cdn. Band Provided The Surprise Song Of Stanley Cup Playoffs

From The New York Times' "The Athletic," of all places.

How a 1970s Canadian band provided the surprise song of the Stanley Cup playoffs

Triumph has received a great deal of press on this plus online plays. My late brother-in-law was their sound and light manager, remember their light show? It was quite the thing back in the day!

If you ever get the chance to see the 2021 documentary Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine take the time to watch.  Even if you were not a fan of the band, the doc is really interesting.  Crave produced the feature and it is also available on AppleTV+, Amazon/Prime Video, AXS TV, and Google movies. I had no idea how popular Triumph was internationally and how loyal their fans are to this day.

Good to see/hear them using Canadian bands, just waiting for Stompin Tom’s “ The Hockey Song” to be used…..!

Please, no.

That Triumph doc was fascinating. I'm not a even a big fan of the band but they have a few tunes I don't mind. One of the more interesting takeaways for me was Triumph songs and lyrics tend to lean toward positivity and optimism: "Hold On", "Fight The Good Fight", "Somebody's Out There", "Follow Your Heart"; an angle which had never occurred to me.

2025 is also the 50th anniversary of the formation of the band, so that plays well with the NHL usage.

It took some work but I managed to track down a copy of "Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine" this afternoon .. watched it tonight.

I really enjoyed it .. Moore, Levine & Emmett all seem like quite nice & genuine fellows who really had a strong bond with each other.  T'was a shame that the constant touring & music industry folks interfering caused the eventual fraying nerves & split.   Glad they eventually mended the friction .. their mini-concert at that Fan Appreciation event was honestly heart-warming as it was quite evident how much the group & the fans meant to each other.

Another Canadian cable network is using a classic Canadian rock tune to promote a sport.

TSN is using Crowbar's "Oh What A Feeling" to promote the new CFL season.

I love the tune, but it's never going to convince me to watch football.
