Afternoon Drive Host Brad Barker Leaving JAZZ.FM91

"It’s with mixed emotions that we announce a significant change at JAZZ.FM91. After more than two decades of shaping the sound, spirit, and soul of our station, Brad Barker will be stepping away from his full-time daily role this month."

I liked his style and enjoyed listening to him. He will be missed.

I feel the station needs a shake-up, here is why. They have dropped to a 0.8 in the ratings, the announcers and shows are a but stale, when 2 of the 4 hosts end their shows with the same sign off every day, for 3+ years, you need to mix it up.

When the morning show is voice tracked, with not local information, time checks and weather checks, it is not good radio...(remember the ice storm in March, there were no updates about it's effect locally and in parts of Ontario, that got hard hit).

When Sunday shows are pre-produced and or voice tracked, it sounds hollow (a bit).

Oh, and congrats to Brad Barker he has been a steady host and PD, for a while and doing radio at Jazz FM, a publicly funded station has not been easy these past 5 years of his tenure.

The powers that be need to give WBGO in Newark a listen to for fresh ideas to use for a niche Jazz format.

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

Rich Brown's "New Origins" and Dani Elwell's "Voice Tracks" on Tuesday night are great-Rich plays music not heard anywhere else which is cool, sometimes I'll check out the Friday night Gumbo Kitchen show as well which has some all-star guests. Not really sure how much they could shake it up being an all-jazz format-but yes a voice-tracked morning show is a problem.

Re: Afternoon Drive Host Brad Barker Leaving JAZZ.FM91

Muffaraw Joe's critique is right on.  Approx 4 years ago when I bought a car with streaming, I switched over to WBGO and haven't gone back to CJRT, with the exception of situations where streaming failed.  Pat Prescott has a 4-hour show every day called Favorite Things - noon - 4 pm where she has a theme for each 2-hour segment.  It is very well researched - by herself and Reggie Jackson who was road manager for the Jazz Crusaders.  I find with CJRT there are songs that make me wonder "why" are they being played????   My second choice is TSF Jazz from Paris - a fully commercial radio station.  They have several live to air concerts each day - mainly European Jazz artists.  It never ceases to amaze me how much live music they broadcast, versus the "canned and stale" shows on CJRT.  Last comment, I'm not a Heather Bambrick fan...so that was the beginning of the end for me, when she got more and more airtime.

Sad news.  Brad Barker has a great show and he's a wonderful, knowledgeable host.

He will be missed.
