I've you've been listening to AM640 on the weekends, you might have occasionally heard Brad Smith. He's been given a semi-regular spot on the station in Roy Green's old time slot, talking about local issues. He's a former CFL player, a one-time host of City's Breakfast Television and appeared on the Canadian edition of The Bachelor.
While he's no Roy Green, he does an OK job and you'll get to judge that for yourself, as management has decided to really put him in the spotlight - giving him the afternoon drive slot on the station while John Oakley takes 2 weeks off.
I'm frankly a bit surprised by the choice, given that he doesn't appear to have a lot of talk radio experience. But this should be a real test to see if he can hang onto an audience when it counts. I just hope he doesn't have his father on every show like he does each weekend. (Larry Smith is a senator in Ottawa and also a former CFL player.)
His first weekday show is this Monday at 3 PM.

Thus endeth the Kevin Frankish experiment? Conversely, talk radio in Toronto has a dearth of personality so strengthening the bench is always top of mind.
