Two Major Broadcast Milestones Mark A Beginning & An End On This Day

Both happened on May 13th a long time ago.

The beginning involves a now legendary broadcaster who turned on a mic for the very first time on this day in 1977. The station was WRNW in Briarcliff, N.Y. The jock was an unknown named Howard Stern. He would not remain unknown for long.

The ending was no less momentous. After 13 years as a Cheers spin-off, the original Frasier signed off on NBC on this date in 2004. No one could have dreamed of streaming back then as we know it today and there was no sign it would ever return - albeit briefly. The final show tied up loose ends and ended with an eye-popping 33 million people watching.
