Evan Solomon Now A Cabinet Minister
He went from questioning politicians to becoming one of them. Now former CBC and CTV pundit Evan Solomon has been elevated to cabinet in the new Liberal government, being given not one but two posts: Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister Responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario.
It should be fun to watch if he gets interviewed by former broadcasting colleagues to see how forthcoming his answers are, or whether he resorts to the "talking points" he used to so despise when he was on TV.

An MP who is appointed to a cabinet position makes $299,900 a year. No wonder Evan Solomon came back to Canada! I doubt he made close to that at either CBC or CTV.
Maybe now he can give up his side hustle selling artwork.

Or maybe he didn't like New York. He was publisher of a group called GZERO media so he likely was making very good money. RA, why do you always bring up about Solomon selling artwork? This was over ten years ago and has nothing to do with the story. Every time you mention him you include the artwork "scandle". What is the purpose of this?

It was a scandal.
Solomon mixed his family artwork business with his interviewing, apparently offering art deals in return for people agreeing to be interviewed by him.
He is damn lucky he made a comeback and has apparently kept things on the up and up ever since.
He'd better keep that up as a federal cabinet minister or he could end up like Mulroney cabinet minister Sinclair Stevens.
(Google it).

This is one of the byproducts of the Internet. Because it's typed, nobody can tell by the tone of voice that someone is kidding.
Personally, while Solomon's extra curricular activity may have been a bit inappropriate, I thought he got a raw deal from the CBC and they never should have fired him for his "sin."
It's just as well - I thought he was used better when he went to CTV.
Now that he's a cabinet minister, he could look back on his broadcasting past and realize it was the best thing that ever happened to him.
