It's was almost a fait accompli and now it's official - NBC has named senior correspondent (and former ABC newsman) Tom Llamas as the new anchor for NBC Nightly News when Lester Holt steps down this summer.
It would not have been my choice - I find Llamas a bit stiff and every time he asks a reporter in the field a question, it sounds completely scripted and stilted (which it is, but it shouldn't sound like it.) But he was the most likely candidate and his choice is not a surprise.
A debut date has yet to be confirmed.
