Just by chance the plane I was on going to Amsterdam was also filled with members of Canadian Military. It was a special fight including a water Canon Salute when we arrived.
We were in seating in the cheap sets and right in front of us was Adrienne Arsenault from CBC. I did not talk to her but she was very talkative with the people around her.
4 times the whole plane show our gratitude with applause for what Canada accomplished 80 years ago.
Well Done Canada.

A Canadian visiting Holland can not pay for his own drink at a bar. Our son works for a Dutch Company and has experienced the Dutch hospitality first hand when visiting their country.

I had a similar experience in Paris and Oxford England when visiting a friend in the early 80's. We had beer bought for us from WW2 veterans in both of these cities in small pubs. People always want to know where tourists are from and often assume you are American or sometimes Australian. When we told them we were Canadian we were invited to sit with them and they immediately insisted on buying us a drink. Very touching and humbling experience when the vets told us how much it meant to them when Canada took part and sacrificed so much in both world wars.
