I've written about CKTB's Sunday morning show before, but it definitely is something different.
For one thing, it's live - which instantly distinguishes it from almost everything else that's on during the final day of the weekend.
The show is hosted by Karl Dockstader, assisted by his producer Ryan Williams. It starts at 6 AM with something called "The Secret Hour," where they discuss anything and everything - none of it seriously. But what happened after the 7 AM news (and yes, they actually have an actual live and local newscaster, who also occasionally chimes in during their back and forth chats) was both hilarious and bizarre.
They played a snippet of Rupert Holmes' "The Pina Colada Song," as part of a bumper, which devolved into a nearly 2-hour discussion of whether the guy who placed the ad in the newspaper was cheating or not. It sounds bizarre, but it just kept on going and going and going, with listeners texting in their own opinions, and somehow they made it work.
All this and almost nothing about the elections, which is happening on Monday. Frankly, it was a nice respite.
It may not be everyone's cup of radio tea, but in a daypart where there's literally nothing else on beyond rerolls, relatively uninteresting talk (AM640) or canned news (CFRB's simulcast of CP24 and 680's endless repetition) it's a great alternative.
I hope they keep it on when Whiteoaks takes over ownership of the station.

Same with CKTB's weekday afternoon show The Drive with Walter Sendzic, Jon Gonzo and Bonnie Heslop. Much better afternoon show than 1010 and not so fixated on politics and opinion. They have more general topics, showbiz/gossip, some sports, good interaction with listeners and everything is quite entertaining.

* Walter Sendzik, not Sendzic...
Sendzik was the former Mayor of St. Catharines
