Stewart Johnston a long time TSN exec, left the post to take over as commissioner for the CFL this week. The announcement was made a month ago, and this week the signing made official.
I find it is a good business move to bring in executives in sports with related experience, media being one of them. The commissioner needs to know how to navigate the media environment for broadcasting rights and or needs a legal background to negotiate with owners, buyers and elected officials for zoning and stadium rights, construction and zoning.
Other media types include Keith Pelley who had a background in sports/team management before going to the media side.
I feel there is an ease in transitioning from media to sport and back again.
What is your take Big Yellow?
Below is an interview on TSN from this week's signing of Stewart Johnston. It is 4 minutes long and I find it funny that Johnston knew all the right things to say. For once I would love to hear it as it is like this, "The league needs more fans and if it doesn't happen, we're toast".
