This isn't local, although Toronto gets a mention, but it's still fascinating: a look back at the very first broadcast of the celebrated Kentucky Derby. It was a very different time in 1925, when the medium was in its infancy and the equipment they use today was non-existent.
The story of how they got this race on the air from the newly minted WHAS Louisville is something I never really thought about. But it's pretty amazing how one guy with a primitive mic got this broadcast to the finish line.
