Bell Acquires Four FM Stations Up North

The stations are in Midland, Owen Sound, Orillia and Sudbury.

=======
Bell Media announced today it has signed an agreement to acquire four FM radio stations in Ontario from Larche Communications Inc. (LCI) The addition of The Dock and KICX Country-branded stations to Bell Media’s existing 105 iHeartRadio Canada stations helps broaden the network’s industry-leading reach across the country, allowing further connection with listeners in Sudbury, Midland, Orillia, and Owen Sound.

Subject to CRTC approval, Bell Media will acquire the following four stations from LCI:

104.1 The Dock (CICZ-FM) – Classic hits format in Midland

92.3 The Dock (CJOS-FM) – Classic hits format in Owen Sound

KICX Country 91.7 (CICS-FM) – Country format in Sudbury

KICX Country 106 (CICX-FM) – Country format in Orillia

“We look forward to welcoming these award-winning stations and their teams to Bell Media, and to building on the strong legacies they’ve created,” said Nikki Moffat, President, Local Radio and TV and Senior Vice-President, Finance, Bell Media. “Each station has loyal listeners and is a strong performer in its market, and this acquisition will further strengthen iHeartRadio Canada’s cross-country radio network. We are proud to continue to make significant investments in local radio and deliver the highest-quality experience for our listeners on multiple platforms.”

“I believe Bell Media is uniquely positioned to build on our strong brands and reputation,” said Paul Larche, President & CEO, LCI. “They are committed to maintaining the strong relationship our team has cultivated with our community, listeners, and advertisers. This can only be enhanced by their television stations in two of our markets.”

Here's an idea that may have merit...

Can this boards admin contact the staff at each outlet and make them aware of the quality career guidance and brotherly advice they would receive if they joined this bd.

Always willing and able to lend a helping hand in a time of crisis...

104.1 the Dock shares listeners with Rock 95.7 and with 101.1BigFM.    1/3, 1/3 & 1/3.     Loyalty ends when a string of commercials begins.  Hit the next button.  As for traffic reports up here, "cottage traffic" on 680 News reigns on weekends.   Paul Larche knows this -- is probably why he decided to cash in.

Just to set the record straight, that quote above is NOT from me. It's out of the Bell Media press release. But I agree with some of the posters here - when Bell or Rogers enters, a number of workers almost always exit and generally it's not their idea. Usually takes about a year or so, but I've seen it happen as early as 6 months in.

Ya right!? Given the endless negativity of posters here towards the Corps, they'd end up in a bathtub. 🔪🔪🔪😏

From the Orillia Packet newspaper:

"Bell Media also remained tight-lipped about the deal, including whether any of Larche’s estimated 60 full-time employees would be affected once Bell Media begins operating the four stations.

"The agreement is currently subject to CRTC approval and, as a result, it is business as usual at the stations,” Bell Media spokesperson Renee Dupuis said. “We do not comment on financial terms.”

I've heard the same statements endlessly from both Bell and Rogers in similar circumstances over the years and there hasn't  been a single time it didn't result in layoffs. Not once. In other words, polish your resumes.

It's all legal. Bell does not already own two FM's in that neck of the woods, but we really shouldn't be handing everything over to the big guys like this. We need more smaller companies.
This also means that the Larche news department gets tape over their mouth if they ever have anything bad to say about anything bell...
