A company called Skyrocket Radio has introduced a new program that can generate, write and voice a radio newscast for local stations that might be stretched thin. According to the developer, it frees up people to do other things, somewhat relegating news to an afterthought. A station in Phoenix is already trying it out.
According to Skyrocket's founder:

What could go wrong? Well, it IS news and that calls for absolute accuracy. I can't speak for anyone else, but my experience with AI online has been a dismal failure, with inaccurate or outright false statements coming during every single encounter. Not exactly what you want for what is supposed to be a reliable and factual source of information. Even if it is culling the stories off a station's own website.
But alas, the future is here and whether it's good or not, in an era of endless cutbacks, I fear it may be inevitable.
