After Almost 44 years CBC mainstay Tom Harrington retired today

There are a handful of familiar names who've been part of Canada's radio and television history for decades and Tom Harrington is one of them.

From broadcasting at the Atlanta Olympics, building CBC's iconic Marketplace tv show, covering elections and being on the radio reporting the news, his versatility is a given.

After his final Your World Tonight at 6 pm. and almost 44 years in the business, Tom Harrington retired.

Above is a wonderful interview with Tom talking about his career. I was struck by something he said when quoting a player he had interviewed who was retiring that spoke to how Tom also feels about leaving journalism. "I'm not going to miss the game. I'm going to miss the room."

Congratulations on your retirement Mr. Harrington and thank you for all the entertaining, interesting and compelling stories.

Edit: Friday 6:30 pm Tom Harrington made it a point of saying *almost* 44 years during his eloquent sign off on-air just now and it's worth getting right.

I heard his final comments live up here in Sudbury. He definitely went out with class.
