Robert Turner (new PD, not dead)

I've known Robert since he walked into CFRB almost 30 years ago, thrilled to be there and one of the few 'younger folks' to fully appreciate the heritage of the station.  He was thrilled to be part of it, as was his family.

On August 14th, 2003, during the North East blackout, he was part of the team (as were many others) that was at the station from the first flicker till the lights came back on.  His family showed up that evening with sandwiches and snacks for everyone working there, and many of us have never forgotten that gesture.  There have been so many historical events that he has been part of, and made the station coverage that much better because of it.

He's an incredibly nice guy and hands-down one of the smartest and funniest people I've ever known.  His wit is second to none, and he'll be unstoppable when he gets the other half of it.

Few share his secret, but he listens, really listens to the shows he was part of, and reacts accordingly, not just pulling something off the pile that worked in a previous show.

He's been APD at 1010 for a while and is now promoted to PD.

I'm so proud of the guy; nobody deserves this more than he does, and the station and staff are on an excellent trajectory because of it.

Congratulations!

PS.  I don't need to kiss up because I've worked there since Fessenden was an op, and I'm old and not looking for a gig.

Madness takes its toll.  Please have exact change.

Re: Robert Turner (new PD, not dead)

I've always enjoyed his on-air work and just wish he was on more often. I love it when he takes the air of out of a bloviating guest, usually a city politician. But obviously, with his new gig, that's not going to happen as much. Oh well. At least he's still on the Roundtables. Good for him and a very nice tribute Iain.

Becky left the station the day before Turner was to become her boss.

A funny and interesting tribute (I plan on stealing, er, borrowing the excellent "he'll be unstoppable when he gets the other half of it" quip in future) and as a huge fan of the guy it's good to hear more about him and the Turner family.

Hearing him on once a week on a roundtable discussion isn't enough. I know I'm not the only one who thinks this.

I'd like to suggest that, especially with the election coming up, a specific time is set up for Mr. Turner to have a conversation with John Moore, about politics, about owning a dog or rather being owned by a dog, whatever grabs their interest, once a week during Moore In The Morning so we can all enjoy his decisive views on the different topics the show covers, maybe call it "Robert's Rules of Order."

This goes back a long way. Here's a post I made on August 24, 2021. Its subject title says it all.

Will Somebody Please Give CFRB's Robert Turner His Own Show?

I only wish they had!

As a former contributor on 1010, Robert was a board operator and more; he provided guidance, had a fantastic sense of humour, and was the king of practical on-air jokes. Great guy and well deserved.
