Video: A.I. Allows Amazing Live News Translation In Real Time

It's a new use for A.I. and it's pretty amazing. A program from a company called Deeptune allows instant translation into other languages while a show is going on. What's the big deal? This isn't a translator speaking over an English speaking newscaster. It actually translates the copy as if the anchor is speaking that language and does it in real time.

You can see an example of it below and it's pretty amazing. You'll notice all the graphics are in English (and so is the original newscast.) But if you watch the show, it appears the person on camera is speaking to you in your language of choice.

"Deeptune uses voice and facial recognition technology to deliver audio translations in real-time. At first, the newscasts will offer a Spanish-language audio track, but additional languages could be supported over time. A demonstration video available on the Deeptune website shows a newscast translated in Spanish, Hindi and Japanese."

The good news in all this is that it could be applied to foreign shows to be instantly translated into English, potentially opening up new markets for foreign shows aimed at those who don't like subtitles.

You can see how it works in the video. Remember, the people you see in it are speaking English in real time. But it looks like they're fluent in another tongue. And you can't really tell.
