The New York Dolls were a legendary punk band but the group never achieved the success that critics thought they deserved.
Lead singer David Johansen survived the failure and came back stronger than ever, with one classic hit under the name "Buster Poindexter." The song "Hot, Hot, Hot" is an all-time enduring party tune. He also ventured into some memorable films.
"In the ’80s, Johansen assumed the persona of Buster Poindexter, a pompadour-styled lounge lizard who had a hit with the kitschy party single “Hot, Hot, Hot” in 1987. He also appeared in such movies as “Candy Mountain,” “Let It Ride,” “Married to the Mob” and had a memorable turn as the Ghost of Christmas Past in Bill Murray-led hit “Scrooged.”
He'd been suffering from stage 4 cancer as well as a brain tumor, when he passed at age 75.

I thought Car 54 was just an early 60's thing.
I don't remember the 90's movie reboot at all! David starred in it!
