Election night coverage on TV

The TV guides, as of Monday, show that CBC, CTV, Global, CHCH, TVO, and Radio-Canada will be doing election night coverage.

However, Citytv’s listings are showing Law & Order all night, including the Toronto version. Are the guides wrong and Citytv is indeed airing election coverage on Thursday, or are they only doing that on their 24/7 streaming channel?

Re: Election night coverage on TV

The listings I've seen on zap2it.com would confirm what you say. It looks like City may be the only one not doing at least an official results show on election night.

What a difference an era and an owner makes. Time was when City TV would stage an expensive shindig and do what it called "party" politics, with live hits from all the leaders' HQs, a guy in the studio playing the piano, guests roaming around with cocktails and the entire thing on until a winner was declared.

Now not only does that seem too rich for Rogers' blood but they're not even doing a show at all. Looks like L&O: Toronto is more important to them than Elections Ontario. Although I feel certain they'll at least do some live updates.

Re: Election night coverage on TV

It's a shame that we are on this road, but Rogers, Bell and Corus each have a local Radio and local TV station in Toronto. It looks like they are choosing to spend money on the TV broadcast or on the radio broadcast. For Rogers 680 news remains more important than City TV, the opposite is true over at Bell with CTV remaining more important than radio. I'm really not sure about Corus. This would explain why Rogers is not doing much at City on election night.

Some City TV election night T-shirts over the years, from the era when they took this stuff a lot more seriously in terms of coverage.

I went and checked the Citytv+ app on my TV, and while CityNews 24/7 is on the app and can be watched on a TV, it's kind of hard to find. There's no link to it on their front page.

IIRC, CityNews 24/7 is also on Channel 101 on Rogers? So I guess people can easily find it.

Re: Election night coverage on TV

One thing I just spotted. TVO special is 2 hours beginning at 8pm. CBC is upto 4 hours beginning at 8pm. CHCH is 3 hours beginning at 9pm. Global is 2.5 hours beginning at 9pm. CTV is 1 hour beinging at 9pm but they have reruns at 10pm. So maybe it could be longer if they need to. As said before City and CTV2 have regular programs.

Many people will be so darn glad when this wretched election is over and it's no longer a topic for discussion, dissection or distraction.

I hit the sack at 9pm to be up for 5am, I will learn at that point that Ford likely has another 4 year majority.

Re: Election night coverage on TV

It looks like the tv listings are not up to date. CTV election special now starts at 7pm. It will also be on CP24, BNN , CTV news channel and Bell media talk radio in Ontario. I think that would include radio stations in Toronto, Ottawa, Windsor and maybe St Catherine's.
I never liked this idea of doing everything out of Toronto. There is a lot of local races across Ontario that will be missed.

NO, CP24 is on Channel 101. (& 24)
CITYNEWS 24/7  is on channel 100 so both can be easily found on Rogers.

I expect that @ 11PM CTV London will have the election results along with CTV Windsor as well.

Wow! I remember about four of these shirts from when I worked there but only had the CityVote 94. You’re right RA, the newsroom took elections very seriously although I remember them once calling it early and getting it wrong, I believe Hurlbut’s head popped! Talking about tee shirts, we sure saw a lot of them back then, from elections to MMVAs to Toronto Tees, tons of branding.

Re: Election night coverage on TV

CFRB morning man John Moore says he will be part of CTV's election night coverage. He better hope it doesn't go too late, because he has to be back at work around 4 AM!

He just announced that because they expect the coverage to go late, John Tory will sit in for the first hour or so of his radio show on 1010 Friday, while Moore will join his own program in progress.
