Yes, I've brought this up before but it still bugs me. Especially after what I saw this weekend.
On Saturday's 6 PM CFTO news (which started late due to special coverage of the Invictus Games opening ceremonies), the station went to its unfortunately usual weather forecast. No matter how many times I see this, it never, ever works. It's laden with confused anchors unable to keep up with the maps and winds up in confusion.
In this recent case, Rahim Ladhani went to the weather boards in the early preview and forgot about the warning from Environment Canada, trying to jump straight into the current conditions, only to see the snowfall warning on screen and being forced to backtrack and admit he missed it.
It happened again during the actual cast itself. They keep trotting out this embarrassment and this one was made worse because the GTA was expecting its first really significant snowfall of the winter and it almost demanded a separate person, instead of just a careless throwaway.
Where was Jessica Smith? It appears they've decided to use her as reporter for fluff stories during the week, when she could be better used to deliver a coherent forecast on Saturday and Sunday. (To be fair, she was doing weather all week in place of Lyndsay Morrison,)
Which brings up another point: Where was Morrison last week? She'd just come back from a year off for maternity leave and two weeks later, she's gone again? Unless it was a health or family emergency, I found that bizarre.
There is a good chance of yet another huge storm next Saturday. Will CFTO deliver the B-Team again or will be get the actual package viewers of Toronto's purported "#1Newscast" deserve?

I repeat my claim again, watch Global's weather, they show it twice in the 6pm cast with a country and province wide forecast in the second segment. I don't even bother with CTV news anymore since they dumped the local shows on weekends. Being in the Greater Sudbury Area, I appreciate Global's effort to include the entire province.

That's what happens when you cut corners or get AI to replace the humans doing the graphics.
But, rahim does a good job.

Rahim is a fine newscaster and reporter. But his weather forecasts always make it seem like he's seeing it for the first time. I can guarantee you he goes over his news copy before going on air, so if he runs into rough spots (pronunciations he's not sure of, street names that might be wrong etc.) he can catch them in advance. Doesn't seem to mind adlibbing weather, though, and that's where it too often goes off the rails.

Ctv news, when you listen on newstalk1010 and there is no graphics, is one of the better newscasts.

I watch CHCH's newscasts on weekends and their weather segments are pretty good. They cover Hamilton, Halton, Brantford, Guelph, Kitchener/Waterloo, the GTA and Niagara. I agree I don't trust CTV anymore too since they axed the weekend newscasts for London and Kitchener. What about residents in Windsor/Essex? Well they might have to watch the Detroit stations for weather because CTV Windsor's weekend newscasts got the big axe too. I don't know if the city of Windsor appears on Detroit's but if it does then that's good unless they focus on SE Michigan/Metro Detroit or the whole state of Michigan.
