AM640's Wacky Early Sunday Morning Technical Problems

I was up early on Sunday and listening to a reroll of John Oakley's "Topics Worthy Of Discussion" from Thursday. It aired in the hour from 6-7AM, but I didn't get to hear the entire thing clearly.

That's because much of the segment was constantly interrupted by stingers and liners saying, "This is breaking news from AM640." The problem: there was no breaking news and the liners kept interrupting the replay. It happened at least five times with no explanation.

I know there's someone in the control room - they have a live morning show that starts at 7. Computer glitch? A board op listening to something accidentally leaving the pot up? Either way, it was very odd to repeatedly hear warnings of an urgent announcement and never hearing any actual announcement. They may need to check their equipment.

"They may need to check their equipment."
🤔
They may need to check their staffer running the board. 😁

This was my first thought.

Re: AM640's Wacky Early Sunday Morning Technical Problems

I heard Roy Green's replacement yesterday afternoon, Ben O'Hara Byrne.  He did a good and job and some interestings guests what I heard.  I was on a road trip yesterday, so I heard some of the program on CFPL 980 London and on 640 Toronto.  Dead air and sloppy breaks on 640 and CFPL had lots of London area advertising with much tighter breaks and no dead air when I was listening.  The station that sounded better organized and major market  was 980 London.

I can't speak to CFPL, but the commercial breaks on 640 have been filled with dead air during the Green and now O'Hara Byrne show for some time now. Must be a problem with the automation software. Sometimes, the silence is as long as 15-20 secs. or more.
