Marianne Faithfull had a big 60s hit with the Rolling Stones' "As Tears Go By," was the girlfriend of Mick Jagger and became a tabloid gossip figure. Her life was quite a roller coaster ride, including infamous battles with drugs but she eventually took what she learned and re-emerged with a second shot at musical fame via the Grammy nominated LP "Broken English."
“I was quite smart enough to realize that I had a lot to learn… I didn’t go to Oxford, but I went to Olympic Studios and watched The Rolling Stones record, and I watched The Beatles record as well,” she continued. “I watched the best people working and…because of Mick, I guess, I watched people writing, too – a brilliant artist at the top of his game. I watched how he wrote and I learnt a lot, and I will always be grateful.”
Marianne Faithfull was 78.

RIP Marianne, Crikey Keith Richards is outliving them all...I enjoyed her syntho/punk days in the late 70's with one of her hit songs being Broken English, this album was totally her and showed her being a viable solo act without help from Mick and the boys,
Here is the link to Broken English...
She gave bands like XTC, (Making Plans for Nigel), The Fixx, Ian Drury and even the Sex Pistols a run for their money.

Sad news. Last night I spun “The Ballad of Lucy Jordan”, possibly my favourite song by her. R.I.P. Marianne, your music will be with us forever, thanks for that!

Here's one of her latter day efforts alongside Billy Corgan:
Marianne also contributed vocals to Metallica's "The Memory Remains".
SIDEBAR: Hey RA, is there a reason I can't embed videos when creating a post? I have to put up a post and then edit that post to get the YouTube embed option.

You have to hit "post reply" instead of just writing in the reply area which the system does allow. Sorry to beat you to this RA.

That's OK. But I believe that is the correct answer. One is for a quick reply. The other is for more inclusive stuff, like YouTube videos. For some reason known only to Boardhost, that option isn't available in the quick post box.

Got it. Thank you both!

'Why'd you do it', still my favorite Faithfull tune. The lyrics were so shocking to the general public at that time, it really made her stand apart.

You got that right mic’em, I had to skip that track when I played the album, living in my mom’s basement while going to college, she heard it once and wasn’t too impressed with me! Great track from a great album.
