Sometimes a sports writer says it best. Too bad so many negative comments after the article. I never put a lot of stock in the comments after a piece like this. Many of the comments seem to be too contrived and agenda driven, even imported from somewhere else. Anyway, good on Steve Simmons who managed to cover politics, culture, sports, attitude and a lot of nuance all in one article. Speaking about love of country isn't easy, and some think not even a cool thing to do. But Steve Simmons just made it both.

Our foreign policy says otherwise. It's as if we have no sovereignty. The Americans ask us to jump and we say 'How High'? They ask us to arrest someone on their behalf which has nothing to do with Canada and we do it at YVR (Huawei). They start and go to war and ask us to join them and our government says 'Okay, how many soldiers, equipment and where do we send the billions'?
Our Re'g'arded politicians speak so fondly about our great friendly neighbor to the south and put up shiny blue signs at the border crossings saying 'Ontario, open for business' all the while the Americans could care less about us except when they need or want something.
The USA is and has been a giant military complex entity which is more of a danger than a friend to countries like Canada and Mexico.
Since the 70's it's been considered that one day, USA expansionism will take aim at Canada and one of the easiest ways to acquire it is by weaking us economically to the point where it's beneficial to just be absorbed.
Imagine the possibilities once the tariffs get into full play and we counter with the same on things like steel, lumber, energy and of course Maple Syrup. Hope y'all have investments in USD because the CAD will drop further.

In regards to arresting someone if asked, I believe that this is a 2-way mutual agreement between our two countries. Obviously the US is obliged to do the same if we ask them to detain someone as well. It is a shame that this arrangement then led to a very serious dispute with China but then again I think our mistrust of China goes far back to the PM Harper days when the government suddenly realized that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to let a super-rich foreign power that hates democracy own all of our mining and other natural resource companies. So that incident did expose China for what it really is: no friend of Canada.
I hope the outcome of this tariff war just leads the premiers of the many provinces to finally come together and open up more free trade and do business with one another rather than rely on a behemoth that is becoming more isolationist and power-mad every passing day under an aspiring orange-skinned Hitler wannabe.

That which Putin is doing to Ukraine militarily, tRump is doing to Canada economically.
The raping and pillaging is just around the corner.
Online!
Exactly Trump will give Putin a pass at the security council for taking Eastern Europe, the Baltic States etc.
Putin will quid pro quo Trump while he takes Greenland, Canada and the Panama Canal.
What do you think Trump meant by I can end the war in Ukraine in one day.
Don't under estimate that they have been transacting something the last 4 years
