You know you're getting old when people reading newscasts are so young they do not know how to pronounce some of the most famous names in human history.
This the is the 80th anniversary of the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz.
Pronounced OW-schvits, right?
So how come the guy doing the news on 1010 calls it AH-shah-wits?
I guess he's thinking of Oshawa.
Meantime a poll says 18 per cent of young people believe the Holocaust is exaggerated.
Ernst Zundel would be proud. (oh they don't know who he was either).

No.
We were toght more how to sound out words and typing.
The school I went to expected a bunch of blind children to know how to spell.
We read braille, not print.

Am I correct to assume that you have some form of vision impairment, Scarboroughbluffsradiof99? If so, well done for keeping up with the conversations.
Do you have a text reader of some kind?

Well, good for you for using technology to participate in the world. I admit to being one of those who wondered if they were teaching any spelling in schools anymore. It's helpful to learn the whole story before being judgmental about someone's writing.
Some of us old codgers round these parts are set in our ways. Having youthful interventions may enhance the discussion, within the parameters as set out by our helpful moderator, RadioActive, of course. Wink, wink.

If you knew what many of us did in our youth, you may want to re-think that statement. Smile. Surviving to a ripe old age did wonders for thought processes for many of us. Smile.

My apologies, especially since I'm a huge believer in free speech. But I have been forced to delete a few of the messages in this thread, as they started to veer very close to hatred towards both Jews and Muslims. Without taking sides, I cannot allow the politics of the Middle East to taint what we have going here.
As noted in earlier cases when it comes to politics. if you want to discuss this, by all means - there's Reddit, newspaper sites, political sites, and there's probably even some Nazi sympathy sites on the web where you can post to your heart's content.
I will repeat this for the upteenth time - this is not the place for it. What is going on in the Middle East, while tragic for everyone, is not about radio and TV in Southern Ontario or North America. Bigotry, even if you think your side does not represent that, has no place here. Nor will it.
Any future incidents could result in post deletions or an outright user ban.
Please read and heed.
Or in the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
Thanks.
