CBS Tackles Divisive Talk Radio In The U.S.

I almost hesitate to post this, given how polarized we are politically and I try to avoid the subject altogether. But when CBS does an almost four minute segment on radio, it's worth pointing out. On its Sunday Morning show last week, Ted Koppel came out of retirement to host an entire program dedicated to the divisions in America.

One of those dividing lines is conservative talk radio. The piece explores how influential it's become and wonders why there are so few liberal counterparts to balance off the vitriol.

You'll need a VPN set to the U.S. to watch the piece, and with that caveat, you can see it here

Thanks for this, RA.

Old 'dash-pounder' men being inflamed by very rich conservative talk show hosts simply playing off of, and elevating, fear. Simple, but oh so damaging to society, formula. Thanks Ronald Reagan.

And, yes, I'm an old man too, but feel fortunate to have figured out the scam years ago. When I hear any of the Mark Levin / Dan Bongino / Jerry Agar types, I'm gone elsewhere, but those without a filter love it.

If that's the case, you should be aware of what Marc Patrone is up to over on Sauga 960 every weekday from 1-3 PM. I rarely agree with the things he says, but his views on vaccinations and COVID are so far over the top, I'm continually surprised no one has complained about him to the CBSC.

He has a right (with an accent on the "right") to his opinions, of course, but some of his views on the wonders of Trump, the last U.S. election being "fixed," and the truckers' convoy are simply jaw dropping.

To give you an example of how far he goes, he actually does his show from Florida, where he's moved to 'escape government persecution, before they come after me,' as he sometimes terms it. There are times he makes Rush Limbaugh sound like a liberal!

Not even Agar goes this far. Hard to listen to, but it's fascinating he's lasted this long on a GTA-area radio station without being challenged. I think it's because he's on a station no one really listens to. But he certainly stirs the pot.

Listened to him today. Wow - no kidding. He even had Sue-Ann Levy on. I can see why the Art Bell show dropped him.

There's almost certainly virtually nobody listening to complain.

It would be interesting to look at some of the rulings Patrone has a hand in when he was a CRTC Commissioner. The guy is such a crackpot, you have to wonder.

Is it just me or did that CBS piece feel a little left-leaning?...

Re: CBS Tackles Divisive Talk Radio In The U.S.

US talk radio lost Jim Bohannon to retirement.  He was a centrist but the man replacing him on Westwood One is this guy.

Well, that was depressing. It's been all downhill since Reagan allowed the Fairness Doctrine to lapse. The venom spewing out of their lying mouths is something to behold. As I move up and down the AM dial, at night, whenever I hear Mark Levin's voice, he is almost always in the middle of a spittle-all-over-the-mic rant about another conspiracy theory. I'm gone very soon before my brain turns to mush. Too bad so many others choose to stay and be further infected with the madness.

Speaking of madness, have you seen today's news from Britain's Conservative party?  With Britain's luck, lately, Brexit Boris will likely get back into #10.

Re: CBS Tackles Divisive Talk Radio In The U.S.

Getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine as mentioned above was not a good move.  Now we see the results.
