I've talked about the occasional prison radio station on the site before, but this one is different - it's the first ever network made for and by prisoners for jails throughout the state of Colorado. But there's another difference from other single prison radio outlets - this one will be on the net so you can hear what it sounds like.
In addition to music and requests from inmates ("Folsom Prison Blues?" "Jailhouse Rock?" "Indiana Wants Me?") across the various hoosegows, there will be talk shows and other special programming for those behind bars. And it's impossible not to resort to the usual jokes.
-It's a captive audience.
-The liners might include, "There's no escape from prison radio!" and
-These guys are definitely not radio pros. In fact, they're mostly cons.
It writes itself. Anyway, the network officially debuts on Tuesday morning, and you can listen to it here. (For the curious, the program schedule is listed below.) I doubt there will be any sponsors. After all, it would be a hard cell.
Sorry. Couldn't resist.
