Who scored the first goal in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs? It's a tough question but the answer is George Patterson and he did it in 1927. He was the subject of a major documentary made in 2016, about his history and the teams he played for.
Now WNED is set to show this as a special on Monday night, Nov. 15th, at 9:30 PM. According to the producers, it tells the story of the player who potted the first ever goal for a new team called the Toronto Maple Leafs, who later went on to skate for other clubs and eventually had his rep. and his life destroyed by a scandal.
Among those interviewed: former Leafs Rick Vaive, Doug Gilmour and Ron Ellis.
If you're a Leaf fan and interested in long lost team history, this could be right up your alley. Or your rink.

My grandfather's name was George Patterson, but this wasn't him.

That first Leaf goal happened at 12:10 of the 2nd period in a game played against the N.Y. Americans on Feb 17, 1927 at Mutual Street Arena. Ace Bailey would score the winning goal for the Leafs in a 4-1 victory. The team's last game as the St. Pats happened one night earlier, a 5-1 loss to the Detroit Cougars.
