Ch 4 has been a CBS affilliate since January 1949. You would never know it on their station ID's. The CBS Eye is missing from the current WIVB ID. Just that big red circle with the white 4. Even back in the WBEN days, no "Eye" Check out WIVB on logopedia. WGRZ proudly displays the Peacock, WKBW shows the ABC circle and WUTV identifies itself as FOX29. Neighbouring CBS stations in Cleveland, Erie, Rochester, Binghamton, Syracuse, Utica and Burlington, VT. all prominently display their CBS affilliation.

Several CBS affiliates don’t use the CBS eye in their branding. KIRO in Seattle, WWNY in Watertown, and WWTV in Cadillac, MI are among them.
Network branding is very hit and miss throughout the US, and there are examples of this with other networks - even occasionally with O&Os. Seattle’s KCPQ is a FOX O&O, but they really de-emphasize the FOX brand in their newscasts - they strictly call their news Q13 News, and the FOX brand is almost nowhere to be found. Feels more like an independent.
I believe Boston’s FOX affiliate also distances itself from FOX in its newscasts, although they’re not an O&O.

I suspect Channel 29 in Buffalo calls themselves FOX 29 because their call letters are really hard to say.

I suspect it’s because the company that owns them, Nextstar, owns dozens of other affiliates of several networks. Many times networks will strike deals with a company to switch a number of stations. If you switch affiliations you’d have to redo everything with a logo on it.
