Gotta love when other people make my point for me.

Taking the victory lap a little early aren't we consultant? Your original point was about if people even cared about the cause (which you are still wrong about and haven't explained how you came to this conclusion) and  you felt that people were pressured or bullied to wear a poppy.

Don Cherry was wrong in the fact he seemed to be focusing on  immigrants for not wearing a poppy, and Mr. Cherry wouldn't normally know who is and is not an immigrant just by looking at them.

Cherry is a bully and always has been. He has bullied foreign hockey players, liberals, women, Ron Maclean, French Canadians, socialists, politicians, players and coaches he doesn't like etc.. So him having a problem (in his mind anyway) with immigrants supposedly not wearing a poppy doesn't prove your point at all,

You were also complaining that others on the message board here were trying to shut you down and infringe on your rights to speak which was not correct, that didn't happened. Some like me just wanted you to explain and defend your position, and the fact that you shouldn't act surprised when provocative and somewhat insulting comments are made.   Using Don Cherry as a prop really isn't proof. This is what he always does and has for years.  Today his time ran out, and his employer fired him.

I still maintain the average person is not pressured to wear a poppy if they don't want to since most people don't.

Maybe it is a Toronto thing, but to me where I have been over the past few weeks, I think more people were actually wearing a poppy than normal this year. And I also disagree with you that the average person who does wear a poppy is aware why they are doing so. You felt that the average person who wore the poppy didn't know, but didn't supply any proof or facts on this beyond your opinion.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

I started this header of this thread with the words "Unforgettable Radio Opportunity.." and this Remembrance Day 2019 will be unforgettable for reasons good and bad. We were given the opportunity to remember and, maybe inadvertently because of Mr. Cherry's words, to publicly acknowledge the many contributions, and sacrifices our country's immigrants made to the war effort.

I also have to hand it to the on-air radio hosts yesterday, who brought their best, and when appropriate, recounted personal family war stories.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

There was an interesting piece in yesterday's Kitchener newscast on a war veteran buried in Vimy, and the personal connection to the reporter.

If there's no pressure, then why is NOT wearing one such a big deal here? Why is everyone up-in-arms over my views? I don't need to explain myself anymore than those that bully and pressure people into wearing one think they're innocent.

"Why is everyone up in arms?"

* How about the fact that you make false claims;  (ironically demonstrated with the fact that although I agree with the quote you attributed to me,  it is in fact patterson1's.)  What was it you said about liking it when others make your point for you!

* No one has ever tried to shut you down,  but you continue to troll the same lie.

* You insult us by claiming without having met any of us,  that we don't understand why we wear the poppy.

* You claimed that we don't stand silently on 11-11 at 1100 hours to pay respect to the fallen.

* You claim that we don't know the history of WW1.

* While you exercise your right to post your views,  you claim that you are threatened and bullied when we have the "audacity" to exercise our rights and respond to your insults and falsehoods.

* You practice mean-spirited Ageism by claiming that we of an older demographic cannot operated computer driven technology or use online resources.

I could go on but enough is enough.  As paterson1 has noted on more than one occasion, you post repeatedly without addressing the actual points raised by others. This posting for the sake of posting without addressing the valid counterpoints made,  is nothing but trolling and this concludes my comments to you.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

Fair enough. As soon as someone throws out the "troll" word, I discount their points immediately. It usually happens when the victim waves the white flag and claims they are hard done by. If, in fact, you think I am a simple troll, then any explanation or justification I many offer will fall onto a mind already made up. The typical troll-caller isn't interested in a genuine discussion because they feel the other party is simply posting to be argumentative. In this, and many cases, that isn't accurate. But, then again, I am a troll, right? Now, if my views sided with yours, I would be in "the majority", right? But, since it doesn't, clearly I am a troll. I'm sorry, but waving that flag is lazy. Again, I pose the question: if not wearing a poppy shouldn't be an equal position to hold, why jump on my views? You see, one cannot answer this question without either claiming to be trolled or victimized. I, on the other hand, feel neither. No, in fact, I feel that my original position is justified by certain naysayers - and I thank them for proving my point for me.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

This is turning to a sketch from SNL

Again, claiming victory and thanking others for making your point!

Consultant, you haven't made any points. All you have done is make some statements but haven't been able to come up with any facts or proof to back up your claims. So nobody has won anything and certainly nobody is waving any white flags.

Since we are talking in circles, sort of similar to the Roger Ashby internet extravaganza last week, I'm done too. But please enjoy your victory party!

I'll give him this,  paterson1:   Consultant is good at this type of garbage.

First, he doesn't respond to the answer I provided to his question "Why is everyone up in arms?"  because...wait for it...they are actually "my" issues;  even though I simply reposted the arguments he published to begin with.

He follows this up by explaining his refusal to reply to "my" arguments (actually his),  because of my use of the term troll.

There is only one course of action for posters like him paterson1.....DFTT.

While such individuals are a pain,  I take solace and benefit from the discourse I have shared with you and so many members;  not only on this but numerous other topics.

Yup. Standard rebuttal. Attack and insult, then claim the opposition isn't playing ball. Well, I'm not falling into your ploys. But, thanks for the invite. You see, you dislike my posts simply because I disagree with your original point. Then, you want some kind of explanation. Well, that explanation is simple: we disagree. There's no further reasoning needed. That said, my volley was out there: we shouldn't feel like we must wear a poppy. Period. I do not understand why you need further clarity other than you want to argue (bulldoze) this into the ground. If that's the case, then yes, you've made my point for me. And I thank you.

Coles Notes (Cliff Notes in the U.S.): DFTT = Don't Feed The Troll
(I had to Google it just now, it's tres hard to keep up with all the acronyms these days)

FWIW "you've made my point for me" is a nonsensical statement IMHO

My apologies...I have had to look up Acronyms myself all too many times in the past and shouldn't have gone straight to the short-form.
My ego over the Ageism posts got the best of me...sorry.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

Thanks Betaylored. I had no idea what DFTT stood for. Now I know. I have to admit I am not much of a social media person. I don't tweet. I am not on Instagram. I have a Facebook account but have never posted anything. From what I have heard/read, I'm not missing much.

Again, my bad.  I find myself googling these things all the time,  because these acronyms are often posted by people on other sites without explaining what they stand for (just like I did).

I hear you on social media.  I've never joined any of the platforms.  You should see the reactions I get when I explain to people why they cannot reach me through Facebook etc. ...lol.

Rarely do I post elsewhere but there are a couple of sites that I read daily.  I get the impression that younger posters and those who use multiple forms of social media, Twitter, etc. are more comfortable with acronym usage.  Some posts read like a form of code!

No prob mace, I hear ya about not being keen on social media. I have no use for Facebook, it reminds me of those telephone party lines they used to have that I've read about, where you could pick up the phone and find any number of people having a chat. And Instagram is a sham.

'social media' is an oxymoron.

Re: Unforgettable Radio Opportunity? Yes and....

When I worked in broadcasting, " The Consultant " was the most hated person in the business. I doubt much has changed in 34 years since I left the industry. If the current poster using said moniker is not Ziggy aka Fausto, aka cGrant, then he/she is a anemic copy .

The same thought occurred to me;  although there has been no obscenities to date.
