Liberals spending on media advertising like drunken sailors

As the election begins to heat up this new month of August and with the Liberals and Conservatives neck and neck in the polls, the liberals are set to spend records amount of your tax dollars...seriously!

$17.7 million tax dollars are going to advertise the Liberal campaign.

Good for media outlets but bad for the tax payer...

Here is more on the story...

I dunno, I may be Canadian, but voting for "the Donald" seems like a viable alternative (he says tongue in cheek)...

That headline is an insult to drunken sailors everywhere. At least drunken sailors spend their own money.

I think this is another effort by Justin Trudeau to blow smoke up your rectum. Don't you? Don't be fooled...

First reaction: What the hell is this doing on SOWNY? Struck me as more political than anything else. The linked article in the OP turned out to be pure crap, which prompted the question, "Who is The Post Millennial?"
Interesting what you find when you look around:

Canadian news site The Post Millennial blurs line between journalism and conservative 'pamphleteering'

I think you'll have more luck peddling this tripe with the right-wing know-nothings over on the Puget board.

FROM CTV:At first glance, the spending figures could suggest the Liberals ramped up awareness campaigns in an election year, making sure Canadians know about everything from tax credits to services available to seniors. But a spokesman for Treasury Board President Joyce Murray said the money is about two-thirds less than the $56.2 million the Conservatives allocated for the same time period ahead of the 2015 election, including $11 million to promote the Harper Conservatives' federal budget. In the end, though, the outgoing Conservative government and the incoming Liberal government spent a total $42.2 million in the 2015-2016 fiscal year on advertising.

I know reading can be difficult, but the article OP linked to calls out Harper's spending multiple times, including a figure you suggest isn't there.

The previous Conservative government also had a history of gross allocations and expensive tax-funded campaigns.According to the National Post, “The [Conservative] government spent $52 million advertising its Economic Action Plan in 2009-10 alone, another $21 million in 2011-12, and $14.8 million in 2013—long after the program had ended. In all, some $100 million was spent between 2009 and 2014, all to ensure voters would not be left even momentarily unaware of the billions of dollars of their money the government was spending on their behalf.” [...] A 2015-2016 Annual Report on Advertising budgets and expenditures released by the Government of Canada shows that a total 42.2M was spent before the 3-month suspension of advertising during the 2015 general election between the former Conservative government and the opposing Liberals.

This Post Millennial article isn't very focused. The main whining seems directed at the Liberals, who complained about ad spend when they weren't in power but aren't really being frugal or combating partisan "independents" now that they are.
