The Cure For "God Awful" Rock N' Roll... Seniors Radio

This popped up on my YouTube stream over the weekend. A CTV W5 report from 1991 about a radio program on CKTB aimed at Seniors. I'm too young to remember what CKTB was doing for regular programming at that time, I doubt the entire station was doing this. But I found it interesting.

Anyone remember this show?

I am 70, still a fan of alternative rock. My go to is Max FM , 89.1 out of Orillia.

CKLY in Lindsay aired something similar in the '90s, and if I remember correctly, the show had only two sponsors at the "network" level - a restaurant or food brand, and a travel insurance company. After the flip to FM in 1998, the station would air easy listening-type music in the evenings, and this was ditched not long after CHUM acquired the station in 2000.

I am in my mid 80s and my primary listening choice is Top 40/CHR and Alternative Rock. Wish I could get Indie 88 here on terrestrial radio. For Alt Rock We have CJIQ and also Edge 102.1 (which has almost abandoned new stuff). I do like the older oldies - mid 50s and early 60s - also.

My first job in radio was working on CHWO in Oakville with the late, great Earl Warren on Saturday Seniors. Part of the job was to ask Earl to stop smoking in the studio. That went over like a lead balloon.

Half way through my 70th year, and I enjoy almost all types of music.  However overall in my car it is usually local radio, not much XM satellite, and I do like talk depending on the topic and host.  I can listen to and enjoy Virgin radio, 91.5 The Beat, or Z103 , rock from Giant FM, HTZ, or Dave,  Zoomer is usually interesting musically and community radio with The Grand out of Fergus.  Not a huge country fan but I can listen in small doses.  Also not a big CBC radio listener, although I usually check them out in the car to see what they have on. I like their news and Cross Country Check Up depending on the topic.

I am 73. My top 40 days are long gone. Mostly listen to Classic Rock/Hits. Usually bounce around between 97.3, 102.9, 104.1 and 96.9 [depending where I am driving] I like both Moore and Agar. Rarely listen to RB after Agar. I have never listened to 640. Don't know why. 590 only if there is a Jays game on. Otherwise the 590/1050 talking heads are of no interest to me. And if there is nothing interesting locally, there is always the DX option. Not having an entertainment system in my car makes DXing quite easy when you know the AM/FM dial so well.

Well....I'm a bit younger, but alternative is still one of my go tos(mainly WEDG in Buffalo, but at times CFNY in Toronto as well.) Truth to tell, I'll listen to almost anything as long as it doesn't bore me.

I will add this: Down in Cincinnati, Ohio, there's a non-commercial station that is based in a retirement village. (No, I'm not kidding.) They run musical standards, big band music, old-time radio programs, talk shows, and they also simulcast WKRC-TV's morning show starting at 6am weekdays as well as the 6pm newscast. I found this station out when I was vacationing in Cincinnati in 2025...and I liked it.

If you want to listen to it, go to http://wmkvfm.org/ .
