Watch For This Innovation If You Check Out Canada Soccer Game On TV

The coverage of the World Cup will feature one innovation you may not have seen before - every referee of every match will be wearing a small camera - and the footage it captures will be sprinkled throughout the television coverage.

Not only will it show action on the field, but it will allow viewers to judge if a call was the right one.

"FIFA has confirmed that referee body cameras will be deployed across all 104 games of the 2026 World Cup in North America. Mounted onto the referee's headset, the small high-definition stabilised cameras are designed to capture match footage from the official's point of view, offering broadcasters, and fans, a new perspective."

The reason why World Cup referees are wearing a camera strapped to their head

I noticed yesterday for the opening game there was no simsub between FOX/Fox Sports and TSN/CTV.  The Canadian networks had different commentators and handled their own analysis during breaks.

Just as well since FOX has been criticized badly for their opening day coverage.  Taking commercial breaks at inappropriate times, not covering Shakira's performance prior to the game and generally an uneven opening game, even missing some of the play.  FOX faces massive backlash after World Cup broadcast leaves fans furious - Yahoo Sports

I am not surprised at this. When the U.S. is playing, the FOX coverage will be amazing. When other countries are playing? Not so much. Americans will be interested in the tournament as long as the U.S. remains in it. Once they are eliminated, the FOX ratings will crash significantly.

Not sure I agree.  The first game and opening ceremonies are very important and set the tone for the whole tournament.  Apparently quite a few FOX viewers and soccer  fans were not happy yesterday.  Maybe CTV will benefit with border towns like Detroit where CTV will be on in some bars rather than FOX.  Or cable viewers that receive a CTV station will watch them instead.  But since FOX has received early blowback about yesterday's production, they will likely be more careful and pull up their socks.

This body cam added an interesting perspective to FIFA games coverage. They’ve showed it a couple of times in the games I’ve watched, usually when a goal was scored. This is the first time I’ve seen this in a soccer match and think it’s great, just don’t overdo it!
